A Legacy on The Hill
Owner and proud alumnus R.C. Faigle is the 32nd member of his family to attend Syracuse University, where he now serves on the board of the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics.
The family’s story on the Hill goes back to 1924, when his grandmother, Lucy, graduated. His grandfather was the former dean, Eric H. Faigle, and his father was a member of the legendary 1959 National Championship football team.
The Orange Crate is proud to be part of that history and the campus community. The connection runs so deep that the University even named the Wine Appreciation and Beer lecture hall after The Crate.
From Lucy’s to The Crate
Many locals still remember us as Lucy’s Retired Surfers Bar or, before that, The Orange. In 2017, we became Orange Crate Brewing Co. at our current home at 731 South Crouse Ave.
While the name and location have changed over the years, the feel has always stayed the same: a welcoming room, busy nights, and the go-to spot where friends tell friends to meet
